Today we began with a brief sightseeing tour of Santiago, which was founded in 1541 by the Spanish Conquistador Pedro de Valdiva, who selected this site for its temperate climate and good defense position. We rode by bus t the Plaza de Armas, the center of Santiago, which originally housed the weapons in Valdiva's time. All distances in the country are measured from this spot.
Next we visited the Museum, which is now displaying the Terra Cotta warriors from China. The museum is a beautiful building constructed of glass and concrete with water features. After the exhibit we went by bus to the Maipo Valley, within the vast Chilean wine region. This is one of the oldest vineyards in Chile. After a guided tour of the winery and wine cellars, we dined outside on the estate grounds. Wines were sampled and paired with our menu. Delicious!!
Our good friends Michael and Letty Rozell arrived today after a airport delay. Hurrah!! This evening we returned to Tiramisu and dined on delicious pizza with Michael, Letty and Betsy.
